Charmaine Bailie (Ngāti Whātua Kaipara) is the Director of Uru Whakaaro, a collaborative consulting group working with iwi, community, local and central government on ecological restoration planning for social, environmental and cultural well-being of people and place. She is chair of the Kaipātiki Project and a founding member of Waitōtara Sustainable and Resilient Living where she works to restore the Waiwera catchment. Charmaine facilitates the Iwi-Hapu and Community Native Plant Nursery Network, fostering local biodiversity. She is a founder of the Para Kore ki Tāmaki (Zero Waste Tāmaki), fostered by Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei. As a technical advisor with EcoNet, she accelerates conservation outcomes through data collaboration at local, regional, and national levels. Charmaine was the first winner in Te Toa Taiao o Te Tau / the Environmental Hero of the Year 2022.
